In the first part of this series, we walked you through 6 of a total of 12 interesting tips to help you get the most out of Google Analytics. 7. Analyse in-site searches

If you have a search function on your site, go to Behaviour > Site search > Overview to examine what users are searching for. This information will allow you to strategically provide relevant content for your audience that relates to those key topic.

 8. Segment your audience

Like most companies, it is likely that you have multiple target segments visiting your site and being able to distinguish between them can help you determine what is working for them and where you should improve. To use this feature, go to Admin > View > Persona Tools & Assets > Segments and click on +New Segment to build customised profiles. You can categorise by age, gender, language and location among others.

9. Track behavior flows

Although a bit complex at first sight, this chart can shine some light on to how and why your visitors are using your site and allow you to map out the flow that your visitors follow when exploring your site. You can find this information at Behaviour > Behaviour Flow.

10. Discover if you need a mobile site

If you have been wondering whether you should have a mobile version of your site, go to Audience > Mobile > Overview to check which visitors are using which devices to access your website. The key is to compare metrics such as average time on site and bounce rate on mobile with the overall numbers. If the first one is lower and the second one is higher, you might want to consider going mobile.

11. Real-time analytics

Go to Real-time > Overview to see your visitors interacting with your site in real-time and your metrics changing as they’re happening. You can check how many active users are currently your site, how they are accessing it, and where are they located. Beware, though, this can be completely addictive!

12. Custom Reports, Shortcuts and Alerts

If you´re not into checking Google Analytics manually, but you’re still interested in getting insight on those metrics that are most important to you, you can create custom reports on Customization > Custom Reports. Here you can select the date range, (i.e. “Last Week” or “Last Month”, and then click email to send this information to any number of email addresses periodically in your preferred format. You can also save the report configuration by clicking Shortcuts to have fast access to your most commonly viewed reports. Finally, if you’re interested in getting alerts when unusual website activity takes place, you can go to Customization > Custom Alerts to create alerts that apply to all traffic or just a segment of your traffic. To keep you updated, Google Analytics will text you or email you when the pre-set condition that you’re interested in measuring is met.
